UPM Raflatac has developed an unlined OptiCut with adhesive technology, which is suitable for all major direct thermal unlined end-use environments-from retail and logistics to fast service and takeaway restaurants.

OptiCut is the latest example in UPM Raflatac's label innovation and product development portfolio. It prevents paper jams and provides excellent adhesion with minimal adhesive buildup in a variety of applications: from rough surfaces to sub-zero temperatures. It minimizes service time and provides customers with a linerless product that has the longest printer labeling machine uptime, fewer reel changes, and clear barcodes on the packaging.

'We developed OptiCut in cooperation with partners in the value chain. Mauri Suomela, senior vice president of UPM Raflatac label paper composites, said that our innovative and sustainable solutions are the best choice when you are looking for the clean cutting performance of printers and excellent adhesion on packaging.

According to UPM Raflatac, thermal (DT) linerless labels are an efficient and sustainable alternative to traditional label materials because it can reduce material usage by 40%. Driven by the trend of sustainable development and the need to improve efficiency, linerless technology has made rapid progress together with traditional technology. Driven by growing demand for end-uses such as grocery labels, logistics and fast food restaurants, the DT linerless market has grown by approximately 15% year-on-year in recent years.

To consolidate its position in the fast-growing bottomless paper label market, UPM Raflatac recently announced the expansion of its production capacity and the construction of a new production line in Nowa Wies, Poland. An investment of 13 million euros is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2021.
